Early Years Facilitator (Music Playgroup)

This role is to facilitate a welcoming early years, parent/tot participation, music group that helps promote healthy early childhood development and parent/child bonding.
Reports to: Program Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning, facilitating, implementing and setting up developmentally appropriate music activities for children (0-6 and their families).
Identifying and supporting program participants who are having challenges and work with them on useful skills through modeling, mentoring, teachable moments and supportive conversations.
Planning and implementing referrals and initiatives to enhance the well-being of children and the capacity of their parents/caregivers. Much of this will be by providing referrals to the Early Years Outreach Worker.
Maintaining awareness of participant feedback and integrating constructive feedback in practice/programs.
Ensuring that the program environments are clean, safe, suitable, caring, respectful and inclusive and collaborating with staff and program participants to accomplish this.
To ensure the maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics regarding early years music playgroup (title to be determined).
To make regular written and verbal reports as required by the Program Manager. This includes the music playgroup quarterly report.
Responding to general inquiries regarding Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee (DBAC)/Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC) and sharing in the work of operating and maintaining a respectful, inclusive, functional, and useful community centre.
To be familiar with and implement the QVCC/DBAC policies, procedures and practices.
Perform other related duties when required and approved by the Program Manager and/or Executive Director.
Qualifications:
High School graduate and post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (e.g. Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Early Childcare) and/or significant training in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Early Childcare or Equivalent).
Music facilitation experience and training relevant to the early years such as Parent Child Mother Goose, Music Together and other formats.
Minimum one year experience supervising and facilitating enriching musical activities and working with parents and their children (0-6years of age) with a wide range of developmental needs and challenges.
Minimum 2 years relevant experience working directly with children (0 to 6) and their parents in a supportive and/or educational context
Effective with basic computer applications (such as word processing, spreadsheets and internet usage), record keeping skills (for reporting, human resources and marketing) and organization and planning skills.
Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check and all Childcare Licensing Requirements.
Hours of Work:
3 hours a week for 32 weeks per year. Currently Friday mornings.
Benefits and Remuneration:
$23.56 per hour and increases with tenure
Additional 6% vacation pay, paid out each pay period

Paid training and development workshops applicable to the position
