The role of the Family Outreach Worker is to provide family outreach support and facilitate parent groups.
Reports to: Program Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Works with families with children 0-11years old to assess and plan for needs, identify required resources, and support linkages
Liaises with and accepts referrals from MCFD staff, and other relevant community organizations
Facilitates education and support groups with parents/caregivers
Facilitates informal mediation with parents/caregivers
Assists families with effective system navigation
Assesses family safety and wellness and provides mental health support as needed
Attends community and case related meetings
Facilitates parent support and mentoring
Participates in/facilitates planning meetings
Makes referrals to community resources and assists with system navigation as appropriate
Facilitates goal setting and steps towards attainment
Facilitates constructive, client-centred helping conversations and basic counselling
Makes regular written and verbal reports as required by the Program Manager
Participates in monthly Shared Assessment Committee Meetings
Assists in system navigation by familiarizing families with services and activities within the Centre and elsewhere in the community and ensuring they can connect with these programs
Transports parents/caregivers as appropriate
Responds to general inquiries regarding QVCC and shares in the work of operating and maintaining an inclusive, functional community centre
Is familiar with and implements QVCC policies, procedures and practices
Collaborates with the Program Manager on project/proposal development
Performs other related duties when required and approved by the Executive Director/Program Manager
Qualifications:
Commitment to anti-oppressive, decolonial, and anti-racist practice
Ability to work with integrity and respect in a diverse, multi-culture community centre
Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Social Work, Community Development, Child and Youth Care, or comparable degree)
Minimum two years’ experience in supervision, community development work, project work, outreach work, system navigation and family work
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check, Standard First Aid, Class 4 Driver’s Licence are required
Hours of Work:
30 hours per week. Core hours Tuesday-Friday 9-4pm. It is the expectation that occasionally these hours will require evening work to accommodate appointments for parents/caregivers who are working during the day and parent groups. Within that expectation there is also the ability to collaborate about the ultimate work schedule chosen and provide flexibility
Benefits and Remuneration:
$31.29 per hour to start and increases with tenure
3 weeks vacation (per full year worked)
Comprehensive benefits package including Extended Health, Dental, AD&D, Life Insurance, and optional matching RRSP contributions after completion of 3-month probationary period
Immediate enrolment in the Employee & Family Assistance Program
Paid training and development applicable to role
