Bee the Change: Quadra Village Day Campaign
Quadra Village Day (QVD) will be hosted on May 9 by the Quadra Village Day Organizing Committee and a strong partnership of over 100 volunteers plus members of the Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC) staff team. Site Coordinator Keith Davis has been volunteering with Quadra Village Day and the Organizing Committee for over 15 years! Long-time retired volunteer Len Nielsen recently brought in a rainbow of Quadra Village Day t-shirts from the over ten years of events that he worked so hard at, and we have his t-shirt display proudly displayed at the windows of QVCC right now.
Quadra Village Day has an incredible legacy of creating and delivering a community building event that is as entertaining as it is accessible. This 100% free fun-filled day features breakfast (pancakes, pastries, fruit and more), ice cream, coffee, bouncy castles and other inflatables, live music and dance, carnival games, arts and craft activities, flower potting, face painting, community information tables and more. It's an experience that is enjoyed by all ages and welcoming to diverse community of Hillside-Quadra and beyond. The relaxing, feel-good vibe is wonderful to see and experience. When I first experienced Quadra Village Day as a parent of young children, I noticed a huge difference between Quadra Village Day and other community events. Line ups at Quadra Village Day were reasonable, everything was free and entertainment was authentic and enjoyable. Everybody seemed happy and there was always an abundance of food and a wide selection of activities. After 14 years on the Quadra Village Day Organizing Committee I'm proud to say that we have kept the event going in similarly wonderful ways.
Sadly, in this new economic climate we find ourselves in, cash sponsorship has declined significantly while the cost of the necessary rentals, supplies and performance fees have increased significantly in the last 5 years. Despite creative strategies to reduce costs we are in danger of losing significant money this year. This could mean difficult choices for Quadra Village Day 2026 and a scaled back Quadra Village Day in 2027!
Fortunately there is hope! The Quadra Village Day Organizing Committee has come up with the Bee the Change campaign. We are reaching out to individual community members who love and value Quadra Village Day and have the ability to support the event. If you are able to help it could make such a big difference for this year and next.
