Program Description: The NSG program provides community members with $50-$500 grants to bring their community-based projects to life!

Role: Ensures that the Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program is run effectively with emphasis on awareness building in the neighbourhood, clarity of process and meaningful engagement by neighbours in the NSG program and the NSG Committee. Participates with the NSG community of practice and liaises with neighbourhoods/organizations that are partnering with NSG.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Linkage to Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC) and the NSG community-at-large

  • Meets/communicates with the supervisor on a regular basis to ensure NSG is meeting all requirements

  • Understands the neighbourhood profile, demographics and characteristics of Hillside-Quadra

  • Is familiar with the programs, services, staff, community work and cultures of QVCC

    2. Supervision of the Neighbourhood Small Grants Committee (NSGC)

  • Advertises and encourages involvement in the NSGC

  • Ensures that the candidate selection process is agreed to by QVCC

  • Meets with the NSGC members to determine needs/availability

  • Utilizes teaching techniques which include modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing

  • Provide sufficient orientation to the project to ensure that the NSGC members are able to conduct their responsibilities as grant providers

  • Supports NSGC members to project leadership and takes on projects that may be too complex for available NSGC volunteers

    3. Promotion

  • Develops an outreach plan to ensure community and partner awareness of NSG

  • Identifies and implements strategies regarding marketing and promotion

  • Liaises with designated staff at Victoria Foundation and Island NSG Network to collaborate about successful marketing and promotion strategies

    4. Leadership

  • Represents local NSG at Island Networking events

  • Is responsible for the overall quality of the NSG program achievements

  • Identifies and implements strategies which would enhance program quality

  • Provides the necessary leadership to the NSGC to support their capacity development

  • Meets with supervisor to determine success indicators and expected outcomes

    5. Administration

  • Creates and modifies all NSG materials as needed and makes them accessible for supervisors on SharePoint

  • Is responsible for all correspondence and communication with QVCC staff and relevant committees

  • Utilizes online portal to administer grant cycle, including supporting community members with applications.

  • Manages and reports on project finances

  • Sets up/supports the record keeping/administration for the project and makes them accessible for supervisor on SharePoint

  • Writes up payment requisitions for Accounts Payable, manages distribution, and record keeping

  • Sets up program evaluation as required

  • Completes final report

    6. Events

  • Plans and implements the cheque presentation events for approved NSG recipients

  • Plans and implements the wrap-up events

    7. Accountability

  • Submits work-plan for approval

  • Reports any variances from work-plan

  • Submits minutes from each meeting

  • A report on NSG activities will be provided on request and as reflected in the work-plan for this position


Qualifications:

  • Commitment to anti-oppressive, decolonial, and anti-racist practice

  • Interest in grassroots, place-based community building

  • Demonstrated ability in community development and implementation

  • Demonstrated ability in, and sensitivity and commitment to, working with diverse populations

  • Knowledge of community engagement methods and demonstrated communication, conflict resolution, and group facilitation skills

  • Demonstrated ability in basic computer software

  • Knowledge of Hillside-Quadra neighbourhood

  • Proven ability to manage the financial responsibilities of a project

  • Ability to think strategically and extensive consensus building skills 


Hours of Work and Other Contract Terms:

Hours of Work:

  • 15hrs-30hrs a month, with a minimum of 3 hours per week*

*Schedule built around NSG program and Community Centre requirements, with flexibility to meet the NSG Coordinator’s own scheduling needs.

 Benefits and Remuneration:

  • $27.31 per hour, increases with tenure

  • Additional 6% vacation pay, paid out each pay period

  • Immediate enrollment in the Employee & Family Assistance Program

  • Paid training suitable to role
